When i reached the peak of Mt Batulao on my first mountain run i received a text from Ivy Macainan that she quit and declare herself DNF from Manila Challenge Half Marathon due to the bad smell and the garbage on some part of the route in St. Mesa Bridge. On my reply i told her that i’m having fun up here. She then ask me to have mountain run again to Mt. Batulao on the following Friday, July 11, 2008. On Friday early morning, Ivy drive all the way from her condo in makati to AIIAS, Silang where we will meet together with IbanRunner.
Recently, Ivy Macainan was one of the members of Island Peak expedition with Leo Oracion. Their expedition was reported on Business Mirror and Philippine Star. This mountain run is her training in preparation to participate in The North Face 100 Ultra Marathon. On this event, Ivy will join the 100k Solo.

For IbanRunner, this is his first time to run in this kind of route.

This was in Camp 5. Before reaching this camp 5, it was a very steep trail where you have to use ‘four-wheel-drive’ to pass this trail. IbanRunner was at the back, trying to catch the fresh air.

This the the hardest part in order to reach the peak. Some people said that this is sort of Hillary Step in Mt. Everest where climbers should be very careful or they might be fall. On both side of this trail is a deep cliff.

Ivy was about to reach the summit. Running would be impossible to apply in this particular trail.

It was surprising to know that upon reaching the summit, IbanRunner was confessing to us that this was his first time to be at the top of a mountain =) welcome to the world of mountaineering!

By enlarge, summit to mountaineers is a reward of a long and tiring hike or in this case run. That was a special moment to IbanRunner in particular.

hmmm, another day of mountain run in Mt. Batulao… =)

Woohoo!! 1 more week before “exam week”.. gotta also do my preparations..

hi barracuda running,
you are very true. both of us start running almost together. we had our fist marathon at the same time and join races together.
last sunday, i participated in TNF 100 in Nasugbu and i saw many runners who join the event didn’t use trail running at all. They just have the spirit to run and they all finish the race =)

Hi Juzwa, if you’ll be in Tagaytay this weekend, take a bus heading to nasugbu or balayan and get off in evercrest. The run should start from there to the mountain. I’ll be there this coming weekend for an overnight climb. Hope to see you in there.
Take care!
