You can read the full recap of this run from BaldRunner and Jonel aka bugobugo85, and this is my story…
While waiting a bus to manila last night, i feel like going to a war, a war of 6 hours running from midnight to sunrise. I was thinking for a while, why am i doing this? Well, doing 6hours run during day time is easy, in fact i’ve done it before but doing it in the middle of the night? HARDCORE! I suppose to have a good sleep [and snoring perhaps] but here i am ready to run with others hardcore runners!
Passing the baywalk, i could see people were amazed to see us. With mouth open, look in to their watch and look at us again, wondering what time was it after they saw us running. Well, actually most of the people we met along the way did the same thing. It suppose to be snoring not running!
It is also a privilege to be able to meet Ben Gaetos, an avid ultramarathoner from the Philippines who are now base in L.A. He finish the famous and challenging 100 mile Angeles Crest Endurance Trail Run last year in 30hours! He gave me many tips to run my first ultramarathon. One of the tips which is very interesting that he gave was, don’t ever think that you will run the whole 100k straight, break it into pieces, run 10k at a time. Have in your mind that after finish 10k, your next goal is the next 10k, do it repeatedly till the next 10th 10k. This is very true, indeed. To have 100k straight run in our mind is psychologically crazy but to break it into 10k for 10x sounds more possible.

Love running at night, especially with friends. It’s a good break from the usual day runs and good training for the long races. I’m based in San Francisco, I’ve done others but I’ve yet to do Angeles Crest. Congrats to your friend, it’s a killer race and highly respected in the US ultra community. Supposed to be hot and the big hills are on the second half, just when you’re tired from the first. Anyway here the long runs are hilly anyway so you have to walk which breaks up the run nicely. At the races its aid station to aid station which are usually 8k to 10k apart on the course.
Looks sweet man, got a whole gang of you hitting the streets. Good company and safer too. Curious, I see that you all have your camelback type backpacks for hydration. How about food? Did you just pack bars and gels or did you have car support?
Good luck on your long races. Good to see Pinoys embracing the ultra distance. Found your blog through Caloy (Second Wind).

Rickgaston,
good to know you too. i’m actually an indonesian but currently staying in your country for studying. that was my first experience of midnight run and that really fun. my hydration pack has enough space to put some food, extra clothes and wallet tho. during the run we had few stops for reloading (food or water).
Wayne,
Thank you so much.
I hope you are doing fine there.

Hi Jerry, I’ve been seeing so many blogs from bugobugo and from you and I’m kinda jealous about you guys running ultras. You get to run beyond the marathon limit and enjoy the scenes along the way. Maybe next time I’ll have my share of experience. Good luck on your full 100K.
